Hell Hole gorge can only be described as an oasis in the outback. Highly recommended (must see). The landscape is a photographers paradise with many water holes and gorges carving through the red volcanic terrain. From Charlevillle I took a loop through Quilpie, however the shortest way is direct from Charleville to Adavale cutting off about 100 kms from the trip. Be prepared for 250 kms of dirt road from Charleville to Hell Hole gorge. Speeds varied from 60 to 100 kph. Had one flat tyre. At the time of my visit, April 2016 the road was easily 2wd however a down poor of rain would change that making the roads very difficult to negotiate even for 4wd vehicles. I was advised not to take trailer however I towed a light camp trailer all the way to my campsite at the gorge, with ease in my Mitsubushi Challenger.
