This is a demanding 2 day route over the Ballow Range West of Mt Barney. It is off track through steep rugged and often thickly vegetated terrain. A high degree of physical fitness, and good navigation ability is required. The track starts at the carpark at the end of Waterfall Creek Rd.Initially follow a graded track along Yamahra creek to its junction with Barney Creek. This is the last water point until returning to Ballow Creek the following morning. A steep ascent of Monserrat Lookout along a rough track leads to a great view of Mt Barney.Contour around Focal Peak along Cedar Pass and then another steep ascent to Durramlee Peak. The Ballow range is then traversed Southward as far as Nothofagus. The descent off Double Peak is blocked to the South by a cliffline. This can be bypassed by a difficult scramble to the East. There are numerous suitable bush campsites, We camped in the saddle between Mt Ballow (Junction Peak) and Nothofagus.Big Lonely can be approached along ridge from the Ballow Range and then a steep descent to Ballow Creek. Rock hoping leads back to Barney Creek and the Yamahra Creek Junction.
Fantastic photographs, I can't wait to get up there next weekend. https://www.wikiloc.com/outdoor-trails/ballow-circuit-4567043#wp-4567046/photo-2294887
