This trail follows a logging road along the west side of Cottonwood creek. In the first 3km the road is right beside the creek, then it begins to climb above it with lovely views down into the creek bottom.
This a pretty easy hike with gentle elevation changes.
On this crisp, clear winter's day Cottonwood Crk. & its tributaries were in full flood with crystal clear water. We did encounter some road washouts and mud due to heavy rains of a few weeks earlier.
As you walk north, you will be rewarded with views of El Capitan Mtn. off in the distance.
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 2 A.
