Wilderness Area river walk in Northern New South Wales. About 1.5 hours south west from Grafton.
Being remote, we had the whole valley to ourselves. Never saw anyone for 6 days
We left a vehicle in Ebor, got a lift to the Misty Creek Campground and walked back to Ebor following the Guy Fawkes River.
Day one there is a track to follow, but after that there is only the river to follow. Very overgrown and at times it was easier to walk up the river bed. A good pair of "action" sandals is advised as there are days you won't bother putting boots on. Our route involved 108 crossings, nothing deeper than the thighs luckily.
Water is readily available as is fire wood for campfires. We had very little trouble finding suitable areas to pitch tents
We were lucky with the weather. Clear and cool days, with cold and clear nights. Frost everywhere in the mornings
This could be a hard hot trail in summer.
Valley abounds with wild brumbies and the occasional wild dog. Care to be taken when setting up camp as it may be in the path the brumbies take to water. Though we saw many brumbies, none we interested in causing any trouble
There are several way out of the valley. We chose to go up Pound Creek and finish off via Pound Road into Ebor. Of note, this is a very hard and steep exit route (carry all your water for two days) and involves crossing private property to access Pound Road so respect for others property is advised.
Other exits are the Bi-Centennial Route and the track up the falls at Ebor.
Brumbies around and wild dogs howling all night
Adjacent to fenced cattle yard, top of bank
Top of sand bank beginning of Pound Creek
Camped amongst trees in middle of paddock
