I've graded this walk as moderate, but it is difficult in terms of length - 20km. Starting at Welby, I walked over Gibbergunyah Reserve's 90-Acre Hill and then through streets to Bowral for breakfast. My route to Mount Gibraltar takes in a very pleasant section of the Cherry Tree Walk in Bowral and goes by the Bowral Heritage Quarry site (well worth a look) before ascending the stone stairway to a picnic ground on top of Mount Gibraltar. In the waypoints I have shown the location of the three main lookouts/viewing platforms along the the Rim Track, though I only visited one on this particular walk. I descended Mount Gibraltar for lunch in Mittagong before walking via Lake Alexandra to Mount Alexandra. The steepest climb of the day is on the bitumen section that takes you to a clearing half-way up Mount Alexandra. Then the ascent continued along a firetrail. I have provided a waypoint for the Katoomba Lookout though I didn't make this short excursion today. The walk continues along the ridge of Mount Alexandra before a steep but short descent to the firetrail above the gully created by Gibbergunyah Creek. The massive pillars of the motorway are very close at this point. The walk concludes with a crossing of Gibbergunyah Creek (no need to remove boots today) and a last climb along firetrails to Welby Village.
