Itinerary description

By car from Chimkent to Otrar. Otrar is an old settlement which goes back 2'000 years and was a large city destroyed by Genghis Khan in 1220 in revenge for the killing by the local governor of Genghis' trade mission. The city regained a lot of importance under Tamerlane in the 2nd half of the 14th century.
